Markets of this type customarily have a selection of foods, drink, seasonal items and handmade crafts being sold from chalet stalls by local exhibitors, often along with activities for visitors of all ages and entertainment in the form of live music, temporary ice rinks, demonstrations and, not forgetting, the all important visit from Santa himself.

Christmas Markets are an excellent way of drawing in the crowds, temporarily increasing the population of the venue in which they are being held. However, increased numbers, along with additional risk factors that are associated with any event, unfortunately, also cause the potential risk of individuals becoming ill, or sustaining an injury during their visit, to increase. Whilst some injuries may be minor and easily treatable, others may require urgent assessment in order to stabilise the patient and reduce further complications.
